Grow My Soul Garden

Everyone who has a busy worklife and/or family responsibilities or simply doesn’t live like a hermit can surely relate to the sentiment of this poem.  Fighting against the mundane grind of daily routines and challenges, sometimes we are pushed to the point of depletion.  Once again, nature’s healing force comes to our rescue as we immerse ourselves in the simple beauty of a garden…  Is it possible our soul is nurtured back to fullness with a simple, quiet moment of peace in the garden?

Grow My Soul Garden

by Jenny Leigh Hodgins  2013

Halfway through

Middle of the race

Spinning my wheels

Deep in the game

Full steam ahead

But need a reprieve

Doing the dance but

Losing my beat

Let me breathe again

Sit in silence—zen

Grow my soul garden

Find my peace now and then

Life is full, so complex

No more give, it’s all take

Pile it on, pushing through

All a rush– with no break

Burn my candle

At both ends,

Watch my smoke

As it ascends

Let me breathe again

Sit in silence—zen

Grow my soul garden

Find my peace now and then

A moment with the man in the moon

Has my poem singing with my tune

The ocean roaring waves to me

Washes in the visions that I see

So…

Let me breathe again

Sit in silence—zen

Grow my soul garden

Find my peace now and then
