Insomnia Battle

by Jenny Leigh Hodgins

Load of tasks unceasingly carried on the back of my mind

Pulls me from slumber with its groaning weight and

exponentially diverse directional scope

Spins my head off, twirling over and over,

until I flap like a fish, turning over another way

into the dead of night–

I am wide awake with thoughts of my responsibility–

my potential, and my destiny.
